SUNDAY ROAST
Served 12pm to 3pm, every Sunday
ASHLEY GREEN, BETWEEN CHESHAM AND BERKHAMSTED
A PROPER ROAST, COOKED BY THE OWNER
Sunday lunch at The Golden Eagle is cooked by Chris, the chef who owns the place, in a 16th-century pub on the edge of the Chilterns. It is a single sitting from midday until three, and it is the busiest service of our week — so a table is worth booking rather than chancing.
Every roast comes with roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding, greens, cauliflower cheese and gravy. Not a choice of two of them. All of it.
THE ROASTS
28 Day Aged Beef — £25. Rump matured for twenty-eight days, Bovril glaze, horseradish.
Roast Pork Loin — £24. Free range loin, sausage meat stuffing, apple sauce.
Organic Chicken — £24. Boneless organic thighs, cranberry sauce, mixed seeds.
Vegetable Roast (VG) — £23. Seasonal, and it changes — ask us what it is this week.
All four can be done gluten free (GFA). There are nibbles, starters and puddings alongside — chicken liver parfait, sticky toffee pudding, the chocolate pot — on the full menu.
GETTING HERE
We are on Chesham Road in Ashley Green, which puts us about five minutes from Chesham, ten from Berkhamsted, and fifteen from Hemel Hempstead and Tring. There is parking at the pub.
We are dog friendly, and we sit right on the Chilterns footpaths, so a fair few of our Sunday tables are people coming in muddy after a walk. That is exactly how we like it.
Sunday lunch is served 12pm to 3pm. The kitchen is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Tables of 6 to 12 come to us as a request and we confirm by email; for more than 12 please see private hire.
V vegetarian · VG vegan · GF gluten free · GFA gluten free available · DF dairy free
All dishes may contain nuts. Tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements when you order and the kitchen will plan around them. We make every effort to accommodate dietary needs, but we run an open kitchen and cannot guarantee that any item is 100% allergen free.
